THE CHALLENGE
Chosen as one of the evaluative events that would determine Los Angeles’ chance at hosting the 2028 Summer Olympic & Paralympic Games–the pressure was on for this evening’s dining experience.
Over the course of three days, presentations were made to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Evaluation Commission to prove why L.A. was worthy of hosting the Olympics.
The dinner held at a private home in Beverly Hills closed out day one of the presentations. The onus was on our creative design to leave a lasting impression that would influence the committee’s day two perspective.
The Complexity
- 70 guests
- Working on a private outdoor property
- Building a stand-alone LED structure as the outdoor “dining room”
- Time limitations due to a tight schedule
- High-profile attendees and pressure placed on event results
With so much riding on the results of this three-day visit, nothing could be out of place and all focus had to be on the crucial felt experience of the attendees.
We ensured that the night showcased the finest of L.A. looking its very best.
THE STORY
The goal was to impress upon those present the capabilities L.A. provides with its rich history and vibrant culture. This was accomplished by building an open-air outdoor dining room at the private residence composed of a steel deck for the floor and 360 degrees of video tiles:
- 360’ seamless LED open-air room
- Integrated and “not in sight" lighting & sound
The tiles showcased custom media content created to immerse the guests within Los Angeles’ vast terrain. From the beaches to the hills, the content demonstrated amazing destinations and the ideal summer climate that LA offers.
The LED screens and celebrity guests worked in tandem to make the entire evening shine.
THE SYSTEM
We engineered:
- LED enclosure with centralized media and show control system, driving synchronized content
- Embedded power, data, and signal pathways
- Having creative control under intense pressure melded into an accuracy and refinement that was both seen and felt by those who experienced it.
THE RESULTS
It was through these joint efforts, embellished by the evening's array of technological feats, that culminated in the closure of the committee’s first day of their L.A. tour. This was the original bid for the 2024 Summer Games, which was awarded to Paris to celebrate their centennial anniversary of hosting the 1924 Summer Games.
Los Angeles was later victorious in being chosen to represent the United States of America as the host city for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
The immersive visual storytelling capped off a whirlwind of a day at the start of a grand tour that ultimately led to the winning result.
